Lanyards

Further Progress:
Now that the learners are using their lanyards to self manage their learning, I have wondered about now we can use them as a visual representation of their learning and goals.
I have started trialling adding writing goals to our lanyards so learners have a visual reminder of what they are aiming and striving towards.

The next step was to then reflect on these goals.  As individuals and next pairs we highlighted our writing to show 'evidence' of achieving this goal, glueing the goal next to their writing.  It has been great to see the students talking about their learning with each other and discussing why or why not they have achieved their goal.

The Beginning:
We decided to start with using our lanyards for our literacy groups as these were set times for each group and won't require printing of timetables every week.

We also added the students name (of course) and their Studyladder and Reading Eggs passwords.  This way they were quickly and easily accessible during literacy sessions when they would be needed.

The idea behind the lanyards is to encourage independence, self management and self direction within learners.

The Inspiration:
At the end of Term 2 our DP, Karla Hull, visited Sancta Maria School in Auckland.
She took one photo that stood out for me and sparked a interest.

I definitely thought that we could give this a go!
